Shirak Marz (Region)
Shirak Marz (region) is located in the north-western part of Armenia. The administrative center (capital) is Gyumri, with a population of 146 thousand people. It is located 126 km far from the capital Yerevan. The region borders with Georgia in the north, Lori Marz (region) in the east, Aragatsotn Marz (region) in the south and Turkey in the west.

MarmashenThis marvelous monument, which is located near Gyumri is one of the masterpieces of the world famous medieval architect Tiridates. Although during the construction of this monument marble was not used, contemporaries gave it the name of Marmashen (built of marble), because of its beautiful structure and exquisite decoration. |

House-Museum of Minas AvetisyanThe world-famous Armenian painter Minas Avetisyan was born in the village of Jajur of Shirak Marz (region), where was opened his house-museum in 1983. Visiting Gyumri, do not hesitate to visit also Jajur and admire the most vivid samples of modern Armenian art. |
