Syunik Marz (Region) ....

Syunik Marz (region) is the southernmost region of Armenia. The total area of the region is 4,506 square kilometers and the population is 153 thousand people. There are 109 settlements in the region, the seven of which are cities - Kapan, Goris, Meghri, Agarak, Sisian and Kajaran.

The region borders with the Vayots Dzor marz in the north, the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in the east, Iran in the south and the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic in the west.

The administrative center (capital) is the city of Kapan.

The rivers Vorotan and Voghji flow through the territory of Syunik Marz (region). The Mount Kaputjugh (3,904 m) is the highest point.

The interstate highways leading to the Islamic Republic of Iran and to Stepanakert pass through the region.

The monastic complex of Tatev, the world's oldest observatory Karahunj, Old Khndzoresk, Vorotnavank, Vahanavank, Shikahogh Reserve and many others are the natural and historical monuments of Syunik Marz (region).

The world's longest ropeway Tatev is also located in Syunik Marz (region).
