Tsitsernakaberd (Swallowfortress)

The memory of the victims of the 1915 Genocide is perpetuated in Tsitsernakaberd memorial complex. Almost all the guests who come to Armenia visit Tsitsernakaberd. On April 24 of each year, the commemoration day of the victims of genocide, hundreds of thousands of Armenians and foreigners gather in Tsitsernakaberd memorial complex to commemorate the victims of the Armenian Genocide of 1915, implemented by the Turkish government in the territory of Ottoman Empire... 44-meter stele of the memorial complex symbolizes the national rebirth of Armenians. 12 slabs are positioned in a circle. In the center of the circle, at a depth of 1.5 meters, there is an eternal flame dedicated to the 1.5 million people killed during the Armenian Genocide. Along the park at the memorial, there is a 100-meter wall with the names of towns and villages where massacres and deportations are known to have taken place. In 1995, in the territory of the memorial complex was opened a small underground museum where one can find information about the incidents in 1915. There are exhibited some pictures taken by German photographers (ally of Turkey in World War I), including photographs taken by Armin Wegner, as well as some publications in the museum. There is an alley not far from the museum, where many famous people of the world: diplomats, artists have planted trees in the memory of the victims of the genocide, expressing their support for the recognition and compensation of the Armenian Genocide.
