National Picture Gallery of Armenia

The National Picture Gallery is the largest art museum in Armenia. There are 56 showrooms, where you can see the works of foreign artists next to the works of famous Armenian artists. The National Picture Gallery is located at the Republic Square in Yerevan. It was founded in 1921. The National Picture Gallery of Armenia is one of the largest museums in the region. More than 25 thousand paintings are stored in the funds of the gallery, including the works of Martiros Saryan, Ivan Aivazovsky, Minas Avetisyan, Haroutiun Galentz, Eduard Isabekyan, Marc Chagall, Auguste Rodin, Tintoretto, Rubens, Gustave Courbet, Ilya Repin, Valentin Serov and other famous artists. The Gallery annually receives about 100 thousands of visitors. The significant part of the exposition of the National picture Gallery of Armenia presents the Armenian art that encompasses highly artistic documentary copies of ancient and medieval art, Urartian frescoes, mosaics bath floor, which is located next to the temple of Garni and medieval frescoes and miniatures, church painting of 17th-19th centuries, silver bindings of manuscript magazines, crosses and other items. The exposition continues with the presentation of the works of famous Armenian masters of classical painting (H. Hovnatanian, H. Ayvazovski, G.Bashinjaghian, P. Terlemezian, V. Sureniants, E. Nazaryants, W. Mahokian and others) and of the 20th century (M. Saryan, G. Yakulov, V. Gayfedjyan, Y. Tadevosyan, H. Kojoyan, H. Gurdjian, E. Chahine, H. Zardaryan, E. Isabekyan, G. Khanjian, M. Avetisian and others). The National picture Gallery of Armenia has branches in all regions and major cities of Armenia.
