Folk Art Museum

The exhibits of Armenian decorative-applied and fine arts are stored and shown in Yerevan Museum of Folk Art. The museum was founded by the Ministry of Culture of Armenia, in 1987. For many years, the museum was aimed at collecting, preserving , developing and as well as was engaged with glorification of applied-painting arts and artistic handicrafts, which were an important part of the intangible cultural heritage of the Armenian people. The formation of the museum's collection dates back to the 1930s. Nowadays the collection includes for about 12 thousand museum items. It provides a broad understanding of the different stages of development of Armenian folk art. The miniature carvings, rugs, carpets, paintings and the samples of woodcarving, designing artistic metal (including silver jewelry), embroidery, stone art and ceramics are exhibited there. 1033 exhibits are on permanent display. The best examples of the museum were exhibited in many countries of Europe, Asia and Africa.
