Old Khndzoresk

Old Khndzoresk is an abandoned village, which now turned into an open-air historical monument. It is located in the outskirts of the village Khndzoresk of Syunik Marz (region), on the slopes of a 3 km long hill. Old Khndzoresk was the largest village in the Eastern Armenia. There were about 4,200 inhabitants in the village, and it was desolated in 1950s. Records about the village of Old Khndzoresk date back the 14th century. The peculiarity of this village is that there are no ordinary house. All the houses are carved into the rocks, sometimes at a height of 20-30 meters. People climbed into the houses by the ropes or through the underground passages. In 2012 a metal bridge was built there with the length of 160 meters, so that within a short time the tourists can get into this abandoned village, which was created in a result of human imagination which has no boarders.
