Sanahin Bridge

The Sanahin Bridge is one of the well-known engineering structures of medieval Armenia. It is located in the town of Alaverdi of Lori Marz (region), on the river Debed. The bridge was built by the Kyurikyan Queen Vaneni (Nane) to commemorate her untimely dead husband, King Abas I Kyurikyan, in 1192. The bridge is a single-arched construction with 18.6 meters in length. The right-side stern of the arched bridge is located on an elevated rock, and the left-side is on the lower bank of the river and as a result, this half of the bridge has a considerable rise towards the center, and the other half is flat. The total length of the bridge is about 60 meters, it has a width of 3.3 m. in the middle part. There are high reliefs of panthers, which were the blazon of the Kyurikyans, on the stony dam of the bridge.
