Hnevank

Hnevank is a monastic complex in the Marz (region) of Lori, to the east from the village of Kurtan, on the right bank of the river Dzoraget. The name has two interpretations: "Old Monastery" (in Armenian. Hin vank) and "Greek Monastery" (in Armenian. Hunats Vank), as Hnevank was Armenian Chalcedonian church. There were three churches, narthex (gavit), residential, economic and ancillary buildings in the structure of the monastery. The Main Church (7th century) is rectangular from the outside and it is a cruciform domed building with three altars from inside (The eastern rectangular cross-wing has not preserved). The south one of the rectangular vestries that are adjacent to the main altar is covered with a cross vault and the north one is covered with semitubular vault. The drum outside the 8-hedral from outside, divided with frescoes, based on two pilasters which have sculptures in the parts between arches. The church renovated the count Smbat Orbelyan in 1154. Only some parts of the prop have preserved from the narthex (gavit) which is adjacent to the west side. Relatively the 13th century church with a semicircular altar and domed hall, which is adjacent to the church on the southern side has preserved better. Only the part of altar and two rows of walls of the vaulted single-nave church, located on the north side of the narthex (gavit) have preserved.
