The Armenian Alphabet Monument

Alphabet Square is a monument dedicated to the Armenian alphabet. It is located in the village of Artashavan of Aragatsotni Marz (region), on the slopes of Mount Aragats, 30 km to the north of Yerevan. It was built in 2005 on the occasion of the 1600th anniversary of the Armenian alphabet. Nowadays Armenian alphabet was worked out and put into use in 405, by Mesrop Mashtots. There were 36 letters in the alphabet, later, in the Middle Ages three more letters were added Now, next to the stone letters there are also monuments to the great scientists and cultural figures of medieval Armenia in the Square of the Alphabet.
