The Observatory of Byurakan

The Astrophysical Observatory of Byurakan was founded in autumn of 1946, on the southern slope of Mount Aragats, 1405 meters above sea level, near the village of Byurakan, in the distance of 40 km from Yerevan. It is considered to be one of the most important observatories of the Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The founder of the observatory is famous astrophysicist and Academician Viktor Hambartsumyan, the architect is Samvel Safaryan. At the beginning the first observation were made through the modest telescopes located in the open air. In 1956, when the official opening of the Observatory was held, this scientific institution became famous throughout the whole world due to the important results achieved. Since the day of its foundation till 1988 the director of the observatory was Viktor Hambartsumyan. During those years one of the largest in Europe, 2.6 m diameter mirror classic telescope, 1m diameter telescope system access opening in the business as Schmid's play, radiooptikakan telescope and many other high quality devices were installed in the observatory. That gave them the opportunity to make a critical examination of the emergence of stars and galaxies, as well as the physics of material on space in the Astrophysical Observatory of Byurakan. In 1947, for example, the stellar associations were discovered: groups of young stars, where stars are formed, and for the first time it was proven the phenomena of the emergence of the stars which continue up to our times. In the Observatory of Byurakan there were also worked out and substantiated the versions of activity of the nuclei of galaxies, which revolutionized the perception ruling in that science. Today you have the opportunity to admire the beautiful game of the stars from the Observatory of Byurakan and follow the position of the galaxies...
