Lori Marz (Region)

Lori Marz (region) is located in the northern part of the Republic of Armenia. The population is 235 thousand people. The total area is 3,798 square kilometers and takes up 12.7 percent of the territory of Armenia.

Haghpatavank (Haghpat Monastery)

Ardvi. Sarbanes Monastery

According to the legend, when St. Hovhannes Odznetsi was serving here a liturgy, a large dragon attacked on him. At that moment His Holiness picked up Seghbestros’s St. Mark, which was presented to Grigor Lusavorich (Gregory the Illuminator) by Pontiff of Rome and hit the dragon with the rod on his other hand. By the power of the St. Mark and the prayers of the saint, the dragon stagnated. A black color stone stratum still remains attached to the rock in a horizontal position. Healing water spouts from the place that was hit with the rod.

Lori Berd Fortress
