Kotayk Marz (Region) ....

Kotayk Marz (region) is located in the central part of Armenia. This is the only region of the Republic of Armenia, which does not border to any other state. The region borders with the regions (Marz) of Tavush, Gegharkunik, Lori, Aragatsotn and Ararat and the capital city of Yerevan.

The area of the Kotayk Marz (region) is 2,076 square kilometers and the population is 257 thousand people. The 97 percent of the population are Armenians, and of national minorities Yazidis, Assyrians, Russian and Kurds live there.

The administrative center (capital) is the city of Hrazdan, which is located 45 km far from Yerevan. There are 60 rural and 7 urban settlements in the area. Hrazdan, Charentsavan, Abovyan, Yeghvard, Tsaghkadzor, Byureghavan and Nor Hachen are the cities.

Kotayk marz (region) is at an altitude 900-2,528 meters (Mount Hatis) above sea level.

The rivers Hrazdan, Azat and Getar flow through the territory of the region.

The railways Yerevan-Shorzha and Hrazdan-Ijevan and the interstate highway Yerevan-Tbilisi pass through the territory of the region.

The most famous historical monuments of Kotayk Marz (region) are the pagan temple of Garni, the church of Geghard, carved into the rock, the castle and the church of Bjni, the Monastery of Kecharis, Havuts Tar, Tsakhats Kar...

The resort town Tsaghkadzor and the sanatorium Arzni are also located in the Marz (region) of Kotayk.
