Gegharkunik Marz (Region) ....

Gegharkunik Marz (region) is the largest region of Armenia. Its area is 5,348 square kilometers, 1,270 square kilometers of which covers an area of Lake Sevan.

The region is located at an altitude of 1600-3597 meters above sea level. The highest point is the Mount Azhdahak.

Gegharkunik Marz (region) borders with the Marz (region) of Tavush in the north, Azerbaijan in the east, the regions (Marz) of Kotayk and Vayots Dzor in the south and the Marz (region) of Ararat in the south-east.

The administrative center (capital) is the city of Gavar, with a population of 65 thousand people. It is located 70 km far from Yerevan. The region has 93 communities, five of which are urban settlements: Gavar, Sevan, Martuni, Chambarak, Vardenis.

The population of Gegharkunik Marz (region) is 238 thousand people.

The interstate highway Yerevan-Tbilisi and the railway Yerevan-Ijevan passes through the region.

The National Park Sevan and Lake Sevan are located in the territory of the region.

Sevanavank, Hayravank and Noraduz are the most famous of the historical monuments.
